The article examines the issue of loneliness of student youth during the COVID-19 pandemic. Loneliness is a complex, dynamic and quite controversial phenomenon. The problem of loneliness deserves special attention in the context of the situation of quarantine and self-isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic. Students, as a special age and social group, are associated with loneliness and certain mental health problems due to significant transformations in their lives during the stage of higher education. The article presents the results of a pilot study of the subjective feeling of loneliness of student youth in conditions of self-isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic, which was conducted at Zaporizhzhia National University. A high level of subjective feelings of loneliness is associated with the deterioration of a young person's mental health. These students feel dissatisfied with life and themselves, they have thoughts that no one needs them, they do not have the support of friends, family, they are more introverted, tend to alienation from society. It was determined that the number of young people experiencing a high level of subjective feelings of loneliness did not change significantly during the pandemic. Therefore, measures to prevent and promote mental health, in particular in the context of reducing or preventing loneliness during COVID-19, should be developed as a matter of priority for those sociodemographic groups that are already at risk. The development of effective and efficient means of correcting the problems of loneliness in conditions of long-term forced isolation and the development of programs of psychological assistance and specialized resources helps to solve the problem of improving mental health. Within the project «Enhancing Mental Health in Students Under Forced Social Isolation During Pandemic», which was implemented at Zaporizhzhia National University, an online resource of psychological assistance "3D SAM" has been developed, which includes psychological techniques and exercises to strengthen the mental health of students.
