Scientific literature on the problems of student mental health caused by challenges of the future profession of a psychologist and training during education reforms, implementation of the competency-based approach to the educational process with a focus on program outcome has a lack of theoretical analysis. Thus, the research purpose has been determined: to study and compare special aspects and psychological components of mental health of undergraduate and graduate students-psychologists to establish its transformation during the training period and education reforms. The hypothesis has been an assumption that during the study, there may be changes in mental health of students-psychologists due to the effect of maladaptive factors of mental stress. The authors have also taken into account the fact that in the context of theoretical and hands-on mastering of foundations of the profession of a practical psychologist, which contribute to the increase of stress resistance, vitality, the formation of one’s adequate self-concept, socio-psychological adaptation of students will grow. Theoretical, empirical and mathematical-statistical methods have been used. Theoretical method has involved analyzing, classifying and systematizing scientific papers covering the issue under study. Empirical method has included observation, content analysis of study materials and social activity, psychodiagnostic methods: Socio-Psychological Adaptation Test by K. Rogers and R. Diamond; State-Trait Anxiety Inventory by Spielberg- Hanin; Eysenck Mini-Mental State Examinations; L.V. Kulikov Dominant Mental State Method; K.K. Yakhyn and D.M. Mendelevych Questionnaire for the Assessment and Detection of Neurotic States; Method of Health, Activity, Mood; “Prognoz” (NPR). It has been established that mental health of postgraduate students somewhat worsened compared to undergraduate ones. There has been a decrease in social activity but with an increase in training effectiveness upon academic indicators. All students have high and average levels of socio-psychological adaptation, but the senior group shows higher anxiety indicators. They are more rigid, have lower mood indicators and manifest more anxiety, neurotic depression, asthenia, obsessive-phobic disorders. Undergraduate students are characterized by good mood, but they do not regulate their emotional expressions. The established changes in the health of students during their studies require monitoring of their psychological state, including the formation of a group of those who need psychological aid, to carry out psycho-corrective measures. The authors also recommend conducting supervision to develop students’ professional excellence and personal growth involving increased vitality, stress resistance, a cheerful outlook on the future.
