Analysis and identification of specific psychological limits of adolescents in dependence on psychological protection of personality

Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of the links between the mental defence mechanisms and psychological boundaries of the personality of a teenager. The author examines in detail the inclusion of individual defences in the work of certain functions of boundaries, and also studies the boundaries themselves from the standpoint of the protective mechanisms systems that serve them. The particular emphasis is put on the distinction of the borders into external and internal ones (the so-called I-delimitation). The use of this typology allows a more differentiated study of the meaning and role of psychological boundaries in the formation of the personality of a teenager. Additional attention in the text is paid towards dynamics of the development of psychological boundaries and mental defence mechanisms at different stages of adolescence. The study of changes in the boundaries of the personality in the period of adolescence led to the conclusion that adolescence is sensitive in terms of the development of boundaries. The methodology of the article is based on psychoanalytic and psychodynamic theory. This gives the concepts under consideration an additional deep psychological meaning and opens up a new understanding of previously known psychological phenomena.
