RESPONSIBILITY AS A FACTOR OF PERSONAL MATURITY

Abstract

The process of personality formation and development is not a linear process. In the course of this development, certain psychological, physiological, worldview, and value changes of the personality occur, which affect the perception of oneself, the world, other people, one`s needs, goals, competencies, difficulties, limitations, crises. The article is devoted to the study of the psychological phenomenon of the responsibility as a one of the factors responsible for special maturity. It is determined that responsibility can de understood as such a psychological quality, a property of the individual, which to a significant degree determines, stimulates the process of personal development and is a necessary indicator of the process of personal maturation. An analysis of research on responsibility in the works of such psychologists as K. Horney, E. Fromm, F. Perls, F. Heider, L. Kohlberg, V. Frankl and others. Important and interesting in this sense is consideration of responsibility in connection with the formation of a neurotic personality, freedom and love, awareness of needs and methods of their satisfaction, stages of responsibility, formation of the moral system of an individual, meanings of life. The article defines that personal maturity is a social and integrative concept. First, personal maturity characterizes a psychologically healthy individual. Secondly, the formation of personal maturity is determined by many factors, criteria, among which one of the most important is the responsibility of the individual. In psychology, personal maturity becomes one of the subjects of research in the humanistic direction, in particular in C. Rogers, G. Allport and others. The tradition of considering the concept of personality maturity is connected with the analysis of issues close to it, such as self-realization, selfactualization, personal growth. It is also shown that it is important to look at the connection between responsibility and personal maturity in the context of psychotherapeutic relationships, as discussed by well-known psychologists as K. Horney, I. Yalom. A person`s awareness of own responsibility for his actions, their consequences – is an indispensable indicator of the dynamics of psychotherapeutic relations between a psychotherapist and a client.
